EEC and Peru discussed cooperation plans

Directions and format of further cooperation between the Eurasian Economic Commission and the Republic of Peru were discussed by Sergei Glazyev, EEC Minister in charge of Integration and Macroeconomics, and Juan Genaro del Campo Rodriguez, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Peru to the Russian Federation, on October 14 at the EEC’s headquarters.

Sergei Glazyev has noted that since creating the Eurasian Economic Union, the Republic of Peru had shown a special interest in the dialogue with the EEC. The country was one of the first to formalize cooperation with the Commission, concluding a Memorandum in 2015.

"Despite the distance separating our countries, we have already held two working group’s meetings and a presentation of the Peruvian export potential for the EAEU States’ business circles at the venue of the Russian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. I suggest focusing efforts on forming the agenda of the third meeting and thinking about its format considering the difficult epidemiological situation, "the EEC Minister noted.

The Ambassador of Peru has addressed the issues of increasing trade turnover between the EAEU and the Republic, emphasizing the importance of unleashing the cooperation potential with any and all Union States and involving the business community representatives in this work.

In return, Sergei Glazyev has confirmed his readiness to provide every kind of assistance in developing direct contacts between the business community and invited the Peruvian partners to send business missions to the Union countries. Furthermore, he has invited the Peruvian business community to participate in the Eurasian Economic Forum scheduled for December 2020 in Minsk. During the conversation, the parties spoke in favor of developing the EEC's dialogue with the integration associations of Latin America, of which the Republic of Peru is a member, in particular with the Andean Community, the Pacific Alliance and the Latin American Integration System.
